LHBTI’s kunnen nu ook in Costa Rica trouwen. Het is het eerste land in Centraal-Amerika waar dat kan. In de nacht van maandag op dinsdag werd dat ook al in diverse steden in het land gedaan.

De ceremonies waren klein in verband met de coronapandemie, maar toch is de wetswijziging een groot feest waard. Nadat het hooggerechtshof een verbod op LHBTI-huwelijken ongrondwettig verklaarde, is de wet ingevoerd.
Costa Rica is daarmee het 28e land dat waar in de grondwet staat dat LHBTI’s mogen trouwen. In Latijns-Amerika is het homohuwelijk inmiddels in zes landen toegestaan.
