Thomas Pesquet, een van de astronauten in het internationale ruimtestation ISS, maakte een prachtige ruimtefoto van ons kleine kikkerland.

‘Nederland is niet het grootste land ter wereld, maar ik kreeg het nog steeds niet helemaal in één shot’, meldt Pesquet. Wat wél op het ruimteplaatje staat, is het Tech Centrum van het European Space Agency in Noordwijk, en nog een heleboel ander moois.
Let bijvoorbeeld eens op het kleurverschil van het water tussen de Noordzee, het IJsselmeer en het Markermeer. Op het moment van fotograferen was het eb, wat goed zichtbaar is rondom de Waddeneilanden. De bossen van de Veluwe springen er ook uit, donkergroen gekleurd op de foto.

Pesquet deelt bijna dagelijks beelden vanuit de ruimte. Het ISS zweeft op ruim 400 kilometer boven de aarde, dus je kunt wel zeggen dat hij een prima uitkijkpunt heeft. Snel gaat het wel: het ISS vliegt in anderhalf uur tijd de wereld rond. Voor wie wil zien hoe snel dat ongeveer is, bekijk onderstaande video.
